How much attention does the Mecer system require?
Much of the work is done by the onboard computer.* The annual amount of manpower required to operate the system depends on the unit size. Small units require 200-400 hours, medium units require 400-600 hours and large units 600-1,000 hours. Most of this time is dedicated towards harvesting the copper cathodes. However, 150-400 hours are for analysis and process adjustment.
*A sophisticated PLC system controls the process. It monitors conditions within the system, starting and stopping the process as necessary and adjusting conditions to optimize performance. When the PLC monitors a condition that requires operator intervention an alarm message is displayed directing the system operator to the symptom.
